A personal testimony…

“I was born an Arminian, as everyone is. I came only slowly, through much study and reflection, to a Reformed understanding of the doctrines of grace…” (George, 95).

Calvinism

“There would be fewer objections to the so-called ‘doctrines of grace’ in our congregations if more Calvinist pastors spoke of election not in the abstract, but the way the apostle Paul speaks of it: to destroy human pride, to grant assurance, and to fuel our people to understand that there are no people groups or individuals who cannot be reached by the gospel, so therefore we must press the free offer on all of them.” (Moore, 113)

Dawson’s Muskie Expo

This past weekend, Dad and Dawson came down to the cities to a Muskie Expo to sell lures that Dawson is making for muskie fishing. If you are interested in seeing more of what he does, here is his website: www.hotmuskielures.com. His business is called Intelligent Design, with a purpose! This world has an Intelligent Creator- God.

The Foremans were at the expo and Dawson even got to try on a Super Bowl ring.

Profitable Quote

I read this a week or so ago and thought that he is exactly on.

“The decline of Baptist identity is not the fault of Joyce Meyer or Joel Osteen, Wheaton or Colorado Springs. It is the fault of local congregations who refuse to teach and mentor. If more churches taught Titus 2 women’s discipleship, there would be less need for Beth Moore DVDs. If more churches taught men to keep their promises, there would be less need to rent stadiums. If more pastors preached the Bible with passion and insight, if more churches actually crusaded for Christ on the campuses in their community, there would be less need for Campus Crusade for Christ” (Moore, 111).

Christ’s Death

“Who delivered up Jesus to die? Not Judas, for money; not Pilate, for fear; not the Jews, for envy; — but the Father, for love!”

– Octavius Winslow, quoted by John Stott in The Message of Romans (Downers Grove, Ill.; Inter-Varsity Press, 1994), 255.

Caribou Rejects

Crystal and I were at Caribou Coffee (thanks to a teen in our youth group who gave us a gift card!) to get our usual apple cider. While there we noticed that Caribou is touting some new Eco-friendly, smiling bring, at times humanistic statements. Things like “reread you favorite book,” “become a beekeeper,” and “be your own boss” line the walls of the coffee shop.

Crystal and I thought of a few that they forgot, and hope that one of their advertising agents reads this post. These are winners.
Be more aerodynamic- shave an eyebrow.
Wear dirty socks.
Make an impact is someones life today- poke them in the eye.
Save on gas consumption- tailgate.
Befriend a skunk.
Reuse your Kleenex.
Don’t waste- drink expired milk.
Save time- wear Velcro.
Share with others – your toothbrush.

I guess “being green” only goes so far.
