O God from whom all blessings flow,\nI thank you for this refreshing water.\n\nMy lips were parched.\nMy tongue was dry.\nI had passed through a waterless place.\nBut you have satisfied.\n\nYou who spoke into existence all things\nHave made such a gift from a substance so common.\nThere are times that I am frustrated by your gift falling from the sky\nSoaking my socks\nFilling my basement.\n\nI have been angered by its excess.\nI have been sick from its want.\nBefore an ocean,\nI have been amazed by its vastness.\nBefore a droplet,\nI have been mesmerized by its symmetry.\n\nYou make your rain to fall on the just and the unjust.\nYou satisfy the thirst of the world\u2019s rulers and the lonely and forgotten.\nYou have stored this water in the clouds and in aquifers.\nYou have caused it to rush down rivers and sit in lakes.\nYou have used this water to flood the earth.\nAnd you have used water to wash the disciples feet.\n\nAnd here I sit beside this fountain and find refreshment.\n\nIt is unadorned and undiluted.\nIt is clear and clean.\nIt is abundant and free.\nIt is a small picture of your grace to me.\n\nYour goodness to me, my God,\nIs more vast than the ocean,\nAnd more present than this cup.\u2060\n-------------\nJohn 4<\/pre>\n\n\n
