Metro Women’s Center

Liberty Baptist financially supports Metro Women’s Center, an organization which seeks “to actively promote and maintain the sanctity of human life through educating women and the community at large about pregnancy alternatives so that informed decisions concerning the outcome of pregnancy may be made. We desire to do this by respecting the lives of both the mother and the child equally. We believe that the answer to a problem or unplanned pregnancy is not to abort the child, but to seek alternatives which allow both parties to live.”

Another way in which we support the center is through community service projects. In September the Youth Group and College and Career helped put together a mailing for the upcoming fundraiser.

I think everyone’s fingers were a little sore the next day, but Haley holds the title for the most envelopes licked. I believe it was over 400. (I think she will have regained her ability to speak by the time of this post)

Liberty’s Core Values

I have been cleaning in my office at church and at home (at the encouragement of my beloved wife who is much farther along in organization and simplicity that I am) and I have come across some interesting things. Amid the piles of old papers, funny photos, and various stationary products I have found some helpful notes. One of those is a handout of the core values of Liberty Baptist Church.
It states: The vision of Liberty Baptist Church is to impact the southwest suburban area with the message of Jesus Christ.
1. The glory of God is our supreme objective (1 Cor. 10:31)
2. The truth of God’s Word is the non-negotiable authority for belief and lifestyle (2 Tim. 3:16-17)
3. People matter to God and to us (John 3:16; Luke 15)
4. The gospel has power to generate radical transformation in the life of any sinner (2 Cor. 5:17)
5. The goal of our ministry is to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:19-20; Col. 1:28)
6. Evangelism and ministry must be conducted in a way that is relevant to people in our sphere of influence (1 Cor. 9:19-23)
7. We must exercise kindness in our relationship (1 Pet. 3:15)
8. We should provide a caring community that nurtures new believers (Rom. 12:10-13)
9. Every believer has a God-given ministry (Eph. 4:11-16)
10. Liberty Baptist Church must have an evangelistic impact on our community (Luke 5:17-26)
We are privileged to be part of a community of believers which strives to understand and obey God’s Word through a transformational relationship with His Son.

Camp Compassion

In June a group of teens from Liberty helped at Camp Compassion through Gospel Light Baptist Church. They did a great job at pitching in and helping.
We helped run games, push swings, teach lessons, calm fights and keep the peace.
I was pretty proud of how the group did and thank God for giving each of us strength and patience throughout the camp!
I am always amazed at how God is able to work through believers so they might to show Christ’s love to a group of children they have never met.
 Searching for hidden treasure.
You may think they are relaxing (above) but they were actually under fire (below).

You can never pass up a momentous occasion such as this – visiting the Lutefisk Capital of the USA! We were so proud.

High Power Soccer Camp

In June, Liberty Baptist offered another week of Soccer Camp.

We had an excellent staff with a large group of soccer players! I am always surprised at how our church family jumps in and serves. I thank God for these fellow believers who give so much time and effort into our outreach.

Unlike other years, we had pretty good weather. Only one day we had to have the camp inside (which was interesting with 100+ children).
We have found this camp to be a helpful venue in reaching out to our community and all over the Metro area.

Back from the Winter Retreat

We spent a weekend down at IRBC for their Winter Meltdown. It was a great weekend and the teens enjoyed their time there.
I think my favorite picture of the whole weekend is this one:

Timmy to the Rescue!

The camp does an excellent job at putting together a winter retreat. There were plenty of activities, a good amount of time dedicated to God’s Word, free time to talk with individual teens, and great food.
This year was a bonus because we didn’t have anyone go to the hospital or suffer from a concussion.
Besides waking up to a teen guy sleep talking while crouched over my bed in the middle of the night (twice!), it was a great!

Working at Church

One of my favorite things to see is families who are committed to their local church. I am so thankful that we have families who see the importance of not merely attending a service now and then, but being involved with the community of believers at Liberty. A few weeks back we had a church work day and it was great to see the whole family show up! I put the young guys to work on the parking lot. They did a great job and it looks much better!

Obviously, one of the best parts about the work day is the Sand’s famous chili! Everyone makes sure they are around for that part of the day.

They made several varieties of chili ranging from mild to “kill-your-insides-hot.” I looked at the final one and started sweating. (I still feel a burn when I get a big bite of ketchup…)

Survivor – Camping Edition

On August 12-13 the teens from Liberty went on a camping trip. The theme this year was “Survivor – Camping Edition.” Little did we realize what we were getting ourselves into! The weekend started off well at Cleary Lake Campground in Prior Lake. We had reserved the island in the middle of the lake, which made transportation interesting! We had a few games with canoes (hence the submerged ones below) and a fun time around the fire.

Nolan helped out with the hamburgers and really spiced things up with his grease fire abilities.

Andrew and his fiery eyes.
