Candles Among Gunpowder

I just read this quote on an email this morning sent out by Nancy Leigh DeMoss speaking about the importance of our modesty as women:

“Richard Baxter was a 17th century pastor who realized how a woman’s clothing could snare a man’s mind. He gave women this counsel: “You must walk among sinful persons as you would do with a candle among straw or gunpowder.””
Are we being that cautious in our lives in order to guard the hearts of men around us?

Camping Trip – Man vs Storm!

The lake seemed so calm as we got everyone out on the island, little did we know that it would definitely not stay that way. We were a little concerned about the storm warnings, but we passed through those fine, without anything more than a strong breeze for 2 minutes.

The real storm hit about 1 in the morning and continued till 5:15. In the middle of the night one of the guys tents looked like this! They had a blast.

The canoes definitely got a little wet. This is the amount of water they took on underneath a heavy canopy!

The lake rose about 8 inches, anymore and we would have been floating! Our dock ended up submerged. Everyone was wet, so what does it matter?

Camping

We went camping with the Fulks a few weekends ago down at Cleary Lake Regional Campground in Prior Lake, MN. It was pretty fun except for Scott’s rain dance fiasco. There was clearly going to be no rain, however his great grandfather, Geronimo, apparently taught him a secret rain dance. Around midnight it began to rain and rained hard enough to completely soak our tents, our gear, and all the possible wood to build a fire the next day.

It was probably a good thing that the raccoon got into our food as we were going to bed, otherwise we would have left it out and it would have been soaked as well!

Above is a picture of Scott picking up his boiling water. Yes, it was boiled in a paper cup set directly on the coals. (I suppose since it did end up raining I am not allowed to use my “I told you so” remark.)

Blue Lake

Today we hiked to Blue Lake in the Cascade Mountains, about an hour out of Twisp. The hike was 2.2 miles if you just went to the lake.

We hiked up to the lake and then up another ridge to get a better look. Not your normal Minnesotan view!

Bernie and some of the guys went fishing and caught a few small trout. There were also mountain goats who got in the way of some in our group. On the way down we met a kid from Rochester who is biking from Minnesota to Seattle. He didn’t seem to want to give me a ride over to Seattle on Friday. Minnesotans.

Hiking

We hiked up Lookout Mountain. It took us a few tries but we finally found the right road.

The most exciting part of the trip was when Melanie killed a chipmunk when it “ran under her foot.” The story sounds suspicious to me.
